“Devapuja consists in showing honour to the wise and the learned, to one’s father, mother and preceptor, to the itinerant preachers of truth, to a just ruler, to those who lead righteous lives, to women who are chaste and faithful to their husbands, to men who are devoted and loyal to their wives. The opposite of this is called Adevapuja. The worship of the above named persons, I hold to be right, while the worship of the dead, inert objects I hold to be wrong.”
